Set in Maine and England in the late 1990s, this story follows two main characters. After working on a mass air crash off the coast of Maine, Paul O'Brien, Medical examiner, confronts his inner demons of PTSD, while moving forward in his personal life. Lillith Messinger, cultural anthropologist, was engaged to her high school sweetheart, Adam Goldstadt, until she thought he betrayed her. She then took a teaching fellowship in London for one year. There, Lillith met Eva Clark and Nigel Bard. A year later, Paul is called to the scene of Lillith's suspicious death in Portland, Maine, and discovers her diaries at the scene. Through her writing, Paul learns of the dark world she was led into, and her own addictions, after she left Adam. Lillith communicates with Paul from the other side of the veil, or so he believes. In the end, will Paul help solve the mystery behind Lillith's death? Come into the worlds of Paul and Lillith, and meet some interesting characters in their lives.
