Generations of Haliburtons can trace their ancestry back to Knight Truithe de Haliburton, born in 1075 in Berwick, Scotland and served during the first crusade. He and his descendants lived at Dirleton Castle in Haliburton, West Berwick Scotland for generations before emigrating to England, Australia, Canada, and the United States. His children married into every influential family in Scotland, including Wemyss, Ruthven, Sinclair and Douglas.
