Unfinished Tales Illustrated Edition

A New York Times bestseller for twenty-one weeks upon publication, Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-earth is a collection of narratives ranging in time from the Elder Days of Middle-earth to the end of the War of the Ring, and further relates events as told in The Silmarillion and The Lord of the Rings. Now, in a beautifully illustrated edition to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of its original publication, Unfinished Tales Illustrated Edition features original artwork by Tolkien’s most famous and ardent illustrators from over the decades: Alan Lee, John Howe, and Ted Nasmith.
First published in 1980, Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-earth is a collection of stories, personally selected by Christopher Tolkien, that expand the First Age of Middle-earth stories from The Silmarillon through to the Third Age stories of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Most importantly, it also contains that majority of published fiction set during the Second Age, a time that we understand will form the narrative backbone to the forthcoming Amazon Lord of the Rings TV series.
Publishing to coincide with the fortieth anniversary in October 2020, Unfinished Tales IllustratedEdition will include original art by all three of the most popular artists with a history of designing Middle-earth related concept art, combining the talents of Alan Lee, John Howe, and Ted Nasmith, who will together provide eighteen brand new paintings. Previously not available in an illustrated edition, Unfinished Tales Illustrated Edition will be a handsome addition to Tolkien fan collections.
