The Hodder Group Reading Tests 1-3 form a series of nationally standardized tests to assess pupils’ reading comprehension at word, sentence and continuous text level. They are designed as wide-range tests and are especially useful in assessing large, mixed-ability groups. There are three levels of tests in the series, and two equivalent forms (A and B) are provided at each level. Each test takes 40-45 minutes to administer. The tests use conventional multiple-choice vocabulary, sentence completion and close-procedure questions, and at each level the tests include questions which assess children’s understanding of word meanings and of sentence structure. This set contains the Test 1 teacher’s manual and one copy each of Test 1 forms A and B - aimed at ages 5:6 to 8:6 -, which use a multiple-choice format throughout and are objectively marked following a straightforward answer key. Standardized on over 13,000 children, the tests give norms as National Curriculum levels as well as reading quotients and reading ages.
