This is an extended ½ hour sketch. A young couple, Renee & Kurt, decide to host this year’s extended family Christmas celebration. They have an infant son, and they are hoping to put in place some meaningful Christmas traditions. For Renee, she would like to have the Christmas story read at some point during the night. For Kurt, he would like to have some substantive conversations with members of the family. The rest of this sketch is a somewhat comical look at how these plans go awry. The other family members arrive, mostly with quirky peculiarities, all with expectations that don’t match with Renee and Kurt’s. By the end of the night, much has transpired but the Christmas story is never read, and in-depth conversations never materialized. In the quiet, of the now empty home, Renee & Kurt settle on the couch with their baby, and Kurt finally reads the Christmas story. It’s been a far-from-perfect night, but this young family is making their own tradition stick, even if the rest of the family isn’t with them. The topics are: Christmas and Family. Its characters are: 4 Males, 4 Females, and 12-tear-old boy. The author is Donna Lagerquist.
