Olivier Rieter studeerde geschiedenis in Nijmegen en Taal- en Cultuurstudies, met als specialisatie cultuureducatie, in Utrecht. Hij werkte voor een historische uitgeverij in Utrecht en voor het Nederlands Centrum voor Volkscultuur en Immaterieel Erfgoed, ook in Utrecht. Hij publiceert onder meer over de onderwerpen nostalgie, strips, magie en volksverhalen. Naast zijn historische belangstelling is hij in sterke mate geboeid door visuele cultuur. Hij is hoofdredacteur van de culturele website Barbarus.
