Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472) est un celebre humaniste. Il fut ecrivain, philosophe, peintre, mathematicien, et theoricien tant de la peinture que de la sculpture, ce qui est l'objet du present traite. Son De Pictura date de 1436 et son De Statua de 1464. La perspective developpee dans le De Statua en fait un texte precurseur de l'image numerique moderne. Claudius Popelin (1825-1892) fut le prefacier et le traducteur du plusieurs traites sur les arts anciens dont les trois libvres de l'art du potier de Cyprian Piccolpassi, texte bien connu des alchimistes. Il est enfin le traducteur du Songe de Poliphile texte aux origines de la Renaissance.
