It's 1867 and the Munros have lost their entire homestead to a wildfire. The whole family-Moses, Grandma, Pa, Ollie, Judith, and newlyweds Jimmy and Celine-flee north and return to Rupert's Land. Desperate for work, Moses, Jimmy, and Celine gratefully accept the offer to guide an expedition for an English professor looking for dinosaur fossils near the forks of the Red Deer and South Saskatchewan rivers. But when one of the members of the expedition is murdered, the Munros begin to suspect that all is not as it seems.
