Daughter of Wales, Rita Landi is both a tribute and a celebration. It is a tribute to those who uphold the great tradition of choral singing while, at the same time, it celebrates the life of one exceptional lady whose musical leadership garnered international acclaim as music champions of the world for one of the choirs she founded and conducted, the Rhyl and District Ladies Choir.

Family was of prime importance to our heroine and this account of her life begins by introducing Rita Landi’s closest relatives, as well as the family–the Oldfi elds of Bettws yn Rhos–into which she married. Against this backdrop her personal story unfolds, thereby offering the reader increased clarity concerning personalities and circumstances.

Wales, long considered to be the Land of Song was, as it happened, the perfect place for Rita Landi to have been born. Reared in Llangenny near Crickhowell, South Wales, she spent her professional years as singer, voice teacher and choir conductor in Rhyl, North Wales, until her retirement in 1963 at the age of 82. Her musical life, which comprises the largest section of this book, is chronicled mainly through newspaper articles and personal photographs, augmented by many of her great-niece’s cherished memories.
