The Laws of Ancient Crete, c.650-400 BCE

Michael Gagarin (Professor Emeritus of Classics, Professor Emeritus of Classics, University of Texas at Austin),Paula Perlman (Professor of Classics, Professor of Classics, University of Texas at Austin)

This volume presents the Greek text of approximately 200 stone inscriptions, which detail the laws of ancient Crete in the archaic and classical periods, c.650-400 BCE. The texts of the inscriptions, many of which are fragmentary and known only to a handful of scholars, are accompanied by an English translation and also two commentaries; one aimed at epigraphical and linguistic specialists, and the other designed for more general readers interested in legal and historical topics.
