Compressed Development: Time and Timing in Economic and Social Development
D. Hugh Whittaker,Timothy Sturgeon,Toshie Okita,Tianbiao Zhu
Balancing and blending ideas of globalization with an understanding of historical and institutional contexts of development is an important challenge for many across the social sciences researching current economic, political, and business dynamics. This book aims to address and bridge some of these debates through the concept of ‘compressed development’. It argues that linear models of staged development no longer apply, and suggests that ‘compressed’ development addresses the three important areas of time compression, space compression, and strategy compression.
