The childhood of Patricia Lockwood, the poet dubbed ‘The Smutty-Metaphor Queen of Lawrence, Kansas’ by The New York Times, was unusual in many respects. There was the location: an impoverished,  nuclear waste-riddled area of the American Midwest.
