This volume presents initial findings from the National Diet and Nutrition Survey (NDNS) survey regarding the types and quantities of foods consumed by adults aged between 19 to 64 years old. Information was collected over a seven day period during July 2000 and June 2001. Results are broken down by age, sex, region and household benefit status. Aspects covered include: a description of the background to the NDNS, its main aims and methodology used; dietary interview data; and an analysis of the number of portions of different foods consumed, including fruit and vegetables. Findings include that, on average, both men and women consumed fewer than three portions of fruit and vegetables a day, with the 19 to 24 years age group recording the lowest consumption.
