Girl Code: Gaming, Going Viral, and Getting It Done
Andrea Gonzales,Sophie Houser
Sophie Houser and Andrea Andy Gonzales met in 2014 at Girls Who Code summer camp. United in their outrage over how our culture makes women feel shame about their bodies and periods, they created an empowering video game called Tampon Run. Sophie and Andy uploaded the game, and by the next day it had gone viral. They were thrown into the limelight of the press, the public, and the tech world. They were covered by Teen Vogue, Seventeen, MTV, Cosmopolitan, Time, CNN, and scores of other media outlets.
Now, for the first time, Sophie and Andy share what they’ve learned-about both coding and the tech industry-to inspire girls who are still discouraged from entering STEM fields. They teach readers the fundamentals of coding and share their own tips. And most importantly, with frankness and humor, Sophie and Andy tell all about how they came to love coding, their realizations on the importance of STEM, and the exclusive conversations they’ve had with big players in tech. Sophie and Andy break down how more girls can follow in their footsteps-or create their own.
