What to read based on your star sign

Looking for a new book but your TBR is so long you don't know where to start? Turn to the stars, and let your astrological sign decide for you!

If you're an Aries you should read:

The Dagger and the Flame by Catherine Doyle

Aries are typically fiery, passionate, competitive and more than a little impulsive. If you think that sounds like most romantasy heroines, then I agree! Which is why The Dagger and the Flame is a great read for an Aries. It follows Seraphine, an assassin and thief on a quest to find her mother's murderer, as she and her biggest rival are drawn together by ominious sightings of mosters roaming their city.

If you're a Taurus you should read:

The Hitwoman's Guide to Reducing Household Debt by Mark Mupotsa-Russell

Taurus is a classic earth sign, known for being grounded, reliable and somewhat stubborn. But they're certainly not dull – Tauruses are also very creative.

You might not associate 'grounded' and 'reliable' with paid assassins, but it's true of Mark Mupotsa-Russell's heroine Olivia. Once a shockingly effective hitwoman, now a devoted wife and mother, Olivia gives her all to everything. And the creative approach she takes to revenge, when her past starts to threaten her family, just further shows how much she embodies the Taurus spirit.

If you're a Gemini you should read:

Silent Sister by Megan Davidhizar

Geminis have a reputation for being two-faced, but while they might be restless and mecurial, their inconsistency isn't founded in insincerity. Geminis are curious and kind, and one of the most emotionally intelligent signs.

Silent Sister is a great read for a gemini, exploring the complicated relationship between two very different sisters who don't always get along, but have an unbreakable bond. This is a gripping mystery with high stakes, as Grace tries to piece together what led her sister Maddy to walk into the woods and not come back . . .

If you're a Cancer you should read:

When the World Tips Over by Jandy Nelson

Those born in Cancer are typically deeply emotional and sentimental, driven by compassion and intuition. If you're a Cancer looking for a book that will pull on your hearstrings, take you on an adventure and leave your smiling after you've gone through the full range of human emotions, Jandy Nelson is for you! In particular, start with When the World Tips Over for a sprawling family drama, a sprinkle of magical realism and more than one love story.

If you're a Leo you should read:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Leos embody 'main character energy' – they're bold, passionate, self-assured and usually more than a little dramatic . . . much like the titular Evelyn Hugo in The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. Evelyn was once a Hollywood starlet and is now a reclusive icon, who is finally willing to tell the true story of the many scandals and marriages of her long life. Anyone with the outgoing spirit of a Leo will be instantly drawn in by Evelyn's glamour, confidence and bravery (and needless to say she's also captivating to those of us from the more introverted zodiac signs).

If you're a Virgo you should read:

Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett

Virgos are sensible and analytical, but may verge into anxious, perfectionist territory. There are lots of academic stories that could fit the bill for virgos, but I think Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries will be by far the most enjoyable for any Virgo grappling with their own high standards.

Unlike dark academia, which tells stories of ominous suspense in academic settings, Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries is a light and cosy kind of academic novel, following Emily Wilde's meticulous and laser-focused research into faeries. It will not only satisfy the analytical side of any Virgo, but will also captivate them with a sweet romance and whimsical, magical setting.

If you're a Libra you should read:

Gentlest of Wild Things by Sarah Underwood

Libra is represented by the balanced scales and, appropriately enough, they are typically fair-minded and diplomatic people who strive for harmony in their world and relationships.

Gentlest of Wild Things is a great read for a Libra, following Eirene's brave attempts to save her sister from an unhappy marriage and stand up to the tyrannical lord Leandros. And Eirene doesn't just stand up to injustice – her deep bond with her sister, and her growing connection with Leandros' mysterious daughter also reflect a Libra's longing for social connection and loving relationships.

If you're a Scorpio you should read:

The North Wind by Alexandria Warwick

Scorpio's are the black cat of the astrological chart – they're intense and often solitary, but also passionate and authentic. A dark fantasy is a great read for a Scorpio, and particularly something with an edge of spice . . .

I would recommend The North Wind by Alexandria Warwick for a gripping enemies-to-lovers romance following a mortal woman who must marry a fearsome, magical immortal. Given it's inspired by the myth of Hades and Persephone, it's sure to hit the spot for any Scorpio in the mood for something broody and a little ominous.

If you're a Sagittarius you should read:

First Year by Kristina Ross

Sagittarius is a pretty outgoing star sign, know for their exuberance and extroversion. If you're a Sagittarius looking for your next read, First Year is sure to be compellingly relatable, following Maeve through her first year of drama school.

Maeve's attempts to hone her craft and expand her perspective reflect the openness of a Sagittarius – and make First Year a particularly great read for fans of Sally Rooney and Coco Mellors.

If you're a Capricorn you should read:

Rapture by Emily Maguire

Capricorn is an ambitious and tenacious sign – those with this star sign know what they want and will do whatever it takes to make it happen. They're also disciplined and dependable, making them great to work with, as long as you're not between them and their goals . . .

Rapture is a historical novel that captures the spirit of a Capricorn through the story of Agnes, the daughter of a priest in 19th century Europe. Agnes disguises herself as a man in order to become a scholar and devote herself to study in a way impossible for women at the time. Known as 'John', Agnes goes on to an incredible and celebrated life, driven by ambition and a passion for knowledge.

If you're an Aquarius you should read:

Now, Conjurers by Freddie Kölsch

Aquariuses are typically empathetic and deep, as well as distinctly individual. They value connection and friendship, but aren't into cliques or labels – they follow their own path and respect that in others too.

Now, Conjurers is a great fit for them, following a teen coven in 90s American – think The Craft. While on the surface the group seem like a motley collection of cool kids and misfits, what connects them isn't surface level similarities but a deep and honest emotional connection (a.k.a. catnip for Aquariuses).

If you're a Pisces you should read:

The Whale's Last Song by Joanne Fedler

Arguably the most watery of water signs, Pisces are typically intuitive and dreamy – making Joanne Fedler's mysterious The Whale's Last Song a great choice for any Pisces' next read.

This beautiful novel combines elements of fables and fantasy to tell a story about family, love and the wonder of the natural world. If there are any Pisces signs out there not already misty-eyed at the thought, just trust me, this is the book for you!
