The Wilderness Society has announced the shortlist for the 2019 Environment Award for Children’s Literature.
This award is presented annually to fiction and nonfiction books that ‘foster a love of wild places and wildlife in young Australians’ and ‘encourage a sense of responsibility for our natural world’.
Here are the shortlisted books for each category…
Picture fiction

- The All New Must Have Orange 430 by Michael Speechley
- When Water Lost Her Way by Meg Humphrys
- The Great Lizard Trek by Felicity Bradshaw and Norma MacDonald
Non-fiction
- Bouncing Back: An Eastern Barred Bandicoot Story by Rohan Cleave and Coral Tulloch
- Australian Birds by Matt Chun
- My Australia by Julie Murphy
Fiction
- Those Sugar-Barge Kids by John Tucker
- Off the Track by Cristy Burne
- Maxi the Lifeguard: The Stormy Protest by Trent Maxwell, David Lawrence and Peter Baldwin
