The best new food & gardening books in October
Our monthly food and gardening columnist shares four of her favourite new books in October.
TLV: Tel Aviv - Recipes and stories from Israel by Jigal Krant
Dutch author Jigal Krant is a culinary journalist, filmmaker, and radio producer based in the Netherlands. He produces and presents a television program titled The Kosher Dilemma, in which he searches for the secrets of Jewish cuisine. This is his first cookbook. Amongst gorgeous recipes for Tel Aviv’s unsurpassed fast food like hummus, falafel, shakshuka, and sabich, there are brilliant photos and essays about the city’s residents.
The Edible Garden Cookbook & Growing Guide by Paul West
We all fell in love with Paul West and his innate joy when he became the presenter of the widely popular television series River Cottage Australia. His latest book acknowledges that not everyone has the space for a market garden and so in his new book West shows you how easy it is to grow and cook some of your own food, no matter how much space you have. Included are Paul’s favourite family recipes bursting with freshness and flavour, and ideas for fun food activities to do with your friends and family.
Venetian Republic by Nino Zoccali
Nino Zoccali is a Sydney chef and a second-generation Italian–Australian with a passion for Italian cuisine. This is not his first cookbook, but here his aim is to simply illustrate how diverse the food of Venice is with seafood and ideas from surrounding islands. These recipes are steeped in history; dishes from the days when Venice was a world power. As much a book about times past as a glorious ode to the beauty of Venice, Venetian Republic will have you creating your own Prosecco-fuelled meals.
