Readings offers free weekly half-hour story time sessions at our Carlton, Malvern and St Kilda stores, with the aim of promoting literacy and encouraging a love of books and bookshops in our newest generation.

To thank parents and children for attending story time, Readings offers a 20% discount off all full-priced children’s books for half an hour after the completion of each story time session. Our children’s book specialists would be happy to assist you in choosing books for your family, whatever their age, reading ability or interests.
Please note that story time is not a child-minding service. We ask that parents stay with their children for the reading.
We also host special one-off story times during the year with authors reading their own books. Last year saw such stellar guests as Alison Lester, Mem Fox, Elizabeth Honey – to name a few. Make sure you keep an eye on our events calendar so you don’t miss out on other great events for the kids.
