This year’s shortlist for the Indie Book Awards has been announced.

Each year, independent booksellers from around the nation get together and vote for their favourite titles in four different categories, as well as their favourite book overall. Here are the shortlisted titles in each category.

Fiction

Non-fiction

• The Hate Race by Maxine Beneba Clarke

• Fight Like a Girl by Clementine Ford
• Everywhere I Look by Helen Garner

Debut Fiction

• The Birdman’s Wife by Melissa Ashley
• The Midnight Watch by David Dyer
• The Dry by Jane Harper
• Goodwood by Holly Throsby

Children’s

• Circle by Jeannie Baker
• Pig the Winner by Aaron Blabey
• The 78-Storey Treehouse by Andy Griffiths and Terry Denton
• Wormwood Mire by Judith Rossell

Young Adult

• Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
• Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff
• The Road to Winter by Mark Smith
• Our Chemical Hearts by Krystal Sutherland
