Fury and Joy: International Women’s Day
Join us for an event this International Women’s Day!
One of the most joyful ways I have chosen to celebrate International Women’s Day is to gift my son and my daughter, each year, a book about a woman that was or is incredible. I want their heads to be filled with women’s stories because we are not there yet.
All the way back in 1911, only eight countries allowed women to vote, equal pay for equal work was unheard of – if women were allowed to work at all – and reproductive rights were non-existent. Historically, International Women’s Day was and still is a day of protest against gender inequity. However, it is also a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. We all understand that collective action – sharing stories and ideas - builds social, political, and cultural change. International Women’s Day is the time to acknowledge this adage. It is a day of women’s stories. It is a day to listen up.
I do hope you join us at one of our events commemorating this important and necessary day. I am hoping we have something that will cover your location, your interest and your fury and joy.
