A Day in Carlton: Chris Gordon's pick

Chris Gordon, Readings' community engagement and programming manager, shares her top pick from the event program of the upcoming A Day in Carlton Festival. Explore the program now!

I am looking forward to absolutely everything in the inaugural A Day in Carlton program, celebrating books and ideas and community. And I am absolutely delighted that there will be a giant pigeon pecking around Lygon Street and Tyne Street on Saturday 16 November. This makes me laugh out loud every time I think of it.

I am very interested in the discussion on Saturday night. The title may rock some of us, but it came to Mark Rubbo and myself because so many people have uttered this sentence to us: everything is f#cked. The world does seems to be rocked sideways this year and consequently there is a tremendous amount of  grief and pain around. Hardship and inequality continues. And so, on Saturday night  we ask a number of esteemed guests to discuss this very statement: Is Everything F#cked?

With past presenter of the ABC’s Big Ideas, Paul Barclay, alongside author and comedian John Safran, lawyer and author Josh Bornstein, professor at Melbourne Law School, Rebecca Giblin and the director of the Intellectual Property Research Institute of Australia, comedian and author Jennifer Wong to tell us the truth – is everything fucked?

The event will be held in the beautiful Church of All Nations, where the Readings Bar and Books will be open. It seems a fitting end to our A Day in Carlton.

I hope I see you there.

Is Everything Fucked?

Come along for some cold, hard truths as well as a rollicking good laugh from this eye-opening panel discussion.
