We are excited to introduce a new event series in 2017. The State of Being Equal is a forum intended to make sure we trump Trump politics by exploring how society can be more equitable and just, rather than divisive and bellicose. Each event in the series will examine a new title that is relevant to global and sexual politics.

This month, Mary Crooks, executive director of the Victorian Women’s Trust, will talk with André Dao, a co-founder of Behind the Wire, about They Cannot Take the Sky. This urgent and necessary book brings together a collection of first-person narratives from people living inside immigration detention on Manus Island and Nauru.
