The Boss of Everyone! by Danny Wallace

As I understand it, one of the most frustrating things about being a kid is that everyone tells you what to do all the time. Adults are always spoiling the fun, thinking they know what’s best for you. But what if you – the kid – got the opportunity to be in charge? Could you show everyone that you have good (maybe better) ideas? This is exactly what happens to Joss Pilfrey, when she heads to work with her dad on Take Your Kid to Work Day at Griffin Games. The owner, Pop Griffin, is frustrated that his team is losing its edge, but Joss’s brilliant thinking impresses him so much that he gives her the BOSS pass, leaving her in charge while he is away. How will Joss the Boss use her new powers, and how will the employees (and her dad) react to her new ideas? And what will happen when her dad’s workplace nemesis, killjoy Mr Jackson, tries to undermine Joss’s efforts to make the workplace fun again?

Author Danny Wallace has a wonderfully warm style with kindness at its heart. He has a real affection for his characters, and his insight into the way that kids think and solve problems is genuine, as is his infectious sense of fun and adventure. The young reader in my house recommends this book because, ‘it is very funny and has important life lessons for everyone’. I really don’t think there could be better praise for a book! For ages 7+.
