Louis Sachar is best known for his stand-out novel for young adults, Holes. In Someday Angeline, Sachar is writing for younger readers.
Angeline is an eight-year-old genius who is having trouble fitting in at school. Whats more, her father cant understand why his too-smart child is so fascinated by his job as a garbage collector and cant find a way to talk to her. No wonder our heroine is spending more time with fish in an aquarium than with fellow human beings. All this changes when Angeline makes a new friend at school (a boy!) and forms a connection with a teacher, who in turn forms a special friendship with her dad.
This is a sweet novel about learning to like yourself, even when you arent exactly the same as everybody else. For ages 8 up.
