Landovel by Emily Rodda
Some authors only need a couple of pages to convince you that their newest book will be great. Emily Rodda can do it with a map. From the moment I opened the first book in Emily Rodda’s new fantasy epic, Landovel, I knew it was going to be just as inventive, mysterious and magical as her best stories. There’s a realm divided in two, an elusive race of immortals and a cast of brave young heroes. Rodda takes us on a journey from the island fortress of Cram the slave-trader to the magically technological land of Free Landovel and beyond, following a young boy tortured by his past and forced into adventure.
Of course, one of the most exciting things about Landovel has nothing to do with the words on the page, as Emily Rodda has decided to skip past the usual publishing rhythms and just release her new saga all at once! For other authors, this might seem like a bold move (the three books are not available separately, only available together in this slipcase edition) but here it’s just Rodda’s gift to any readers who won’t be able to bear a single day’s wait between books. With an adventure as thrilling and intriguing as this one, I’m sure there will be plenty of those readers, desperate to devour the series as quickly as possible. For ages 10+.
