This book was on lots of the Best Kids Graphic Novels of 2008 lists in the US, and it’s not difficult to see why. Johnny Boo is a very excitable young ghost who likes to hang out with his equally excitable best friend Squiggle, exercising their BOO! powers and obsessing about ice cream.

When they meet the lurid pink and yellow Ice Cream Monster, some very swishy, slurpy and burpy adventures ensue. Johnny Boo is great fun and full of silliness and humour, but it also has some nice messages about how to treat your friends.

This is a great book to introduce really young kids from age four to the comic book/graphic novel form. The illustrations are bold, cute and colorful, and each page contains only three of four simple panels.
