The young readers’ edition of Alexandra Horowitz’s thoughtful book about dog cognition is fantastic for dog-lovers of all ages. It describes how dogs experience their world, how they see, how they smell and how they behave and interact with other dogs and people. This enables and encourages readers to consider how we interact with our canine friends, and also, more generally, how we as humans experience our surroundings. Included in the text are lovely personal anecdotes about the author’s own dog companions, and plenty of nice illustrations make this a charming and very informative book. I read it as my own dog was curled up next to me and often found myself glancing over and pausing to pat her and play with what felt like fresh eyes and a new understanding! Very engaging, fun and highly recommended non-fiction!
