In September we launch what we expect to be a landmark book in Indigenous affairs.
Decolonizing Solidarity: Dilemmas and Directions for Supporters of Indigenous Struggles provides an urgently needed new framework for action by non-Indigenous people in support of Indigenous struggles. In the book, Melbourne activist and author Clare Land synthesises and presents, for the first time, the wisdom and challenges of Aboriginal people from the Land Rights movement in southeast Australia, and the reflections of their supporters.
The lingering injustices of colonisation and the need for a fresh approach are nowhere better reflected than in the Fourth World conditions, morbidity and mortality of Indigenous people in settler nations. Now more than ever, Indigenous people are aware of the need to garner critically informed support.
Gary Foley and Robbie Thorpe will make comment on the launch of Decolonizing Solidarity. Foley, who wrote the foreword to the book, says, “I would strongly recommend this as a book that will assist in developing a better understanding among all people who might work in association with Indigenous peoples.
