Wild Honey from the Moon by Kenneth Kraegel
This gorgeous, full-colour chapter book is an utter delight. It features the unusual character of a Mother Shrew whose son has a cold head, hot feet and will not stop sleeping. She reads a medical book that advises ‘wild honey from the moon’ for his symptoms and so, gathering up her umbrella, she begins a journey to search for his cure. She is a mother on a mission and will not be stopped, whether the hindrance be owls, bees or other strange creatures of the night.
The ink and watercolour illustrations are exquisite and there is much for the eyes to engage with on the page. The story of the great determination and love of a mother for her child is a particularly comforting one for young readers. This is a beautiful bedtime story for ages 5+ to read or be read to.
