Westlake: Missa Solis, Requiem for Eli
There is an old saying, ‘No parent should have to bury their child’. This unfathomable cruelty was inflicted upon Australian composer Nigel Westlake in 2008 with the sudden death of his 21 year old son, Eli. After a year drifting, Westlake came to finish his Missa Solis which had been abandoned. Reworked, re-imagined it’s become not only a Requiem for Eli, but a powerful musical work in its own right. Although there’s darkness, you can feel the love Westlake bore for his child infusing the phrases. This recording is not to be missed by anyone who wants to truly experience music at its most powerful.
