Edwin Roxburgh: Solos and Duos
Composer Edwin Roxburgh is well known in British music circles, bujt less so in Australia. This recording is a selectino of his chamber ad solo repertoire. Whether performed by himself as oboist, or by friends an dcolleagues from all the major orchestras of England, the pieces are a tewrrific snapshot of a partiuclar type of repertoire. he uses extended techniques, from harmonics and notes that don’t quite exist on his instruement, performed in a mad sort of fury, to open gentle passages, with an almost-tune present. Definitely for the lovers of modern, slightly more multi-tonal music, but well-worth the effort.
