Congratulations to the authors, translators and publishers shortlisted for this year’s Man Booker International Prize.

Here is the shortlist in full:

• The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree by Shokoofeh Azar (translated by an anonymous translator from Farsi)
• The Adventures of China Iron by Gabriela Cabezón Cámara (translated by Iona Macintyre and Fiona Mackintosh from Spanish)
• Tyll by Daniel Kehlmann (translated by Ross Benjamin from German)
• Hurricane Season by Fernanda Melchor (translated by Sophie Hughes from Spanish)
• The Memory Police by Yōko Ogowa (translated by Stephen Snyder from Japanese)
• The Discomfort of Evening by Marieke Lucas Rijneveld (translated by Michele Hutchison from Dutch)

Ted Hodgkinson, chair of judges, comments that this shortlist of six titles, “transcends this unprecedented moment, immersing us in expansively imagined lives that hold enduring fascination.”

The International Booker Prize is awarded every year for a single book, which is translated into English and published in the UK. The work of translators is equally rewarded, with the £50,000 prize divided between the author and the translator of the winning entry. In addition, each shortlisted author and translator will receive £1,000.
