Shostakovich Symphonies 1-3, Wigglesworth

Who doesn’t love a good Shostakovich Symphony? There are not many orchestral musicians who don’t adore the exciting and virtuosic fifteen symphonies that he wrote. Mark Wigglesworth is one of those rare conductors who not only enjoys the respect of his fellow musicians but is also well renowned commentator on music. This is a rendition of the first three symphonies of Shostakovich, and they feel still optimistic and there’s a giant dash of cheekiness prevalent throughout the three works. Everything feels like it’s just beginning in his compositional life and it’s exciting to listen to history in the making.
