Schubert: The Trout Quintet, Seraphim Trio
Schubert’s Piano Quintet in A Major, commonly referred to as simply, ‘The Trout’ sends shivers of delight down the back of my spine whenever I hear it. Here it’s performed by I swear, one of my favourite ensembles of all time, the Seraphim Trio. If you feel like this is a name you should know, it is! The personnel are Helen Ayres, Violin, Timothy Nankervis, cello and Anna Goldsworthy of Piano Lessons fame. Here with Jacqueline Cronin on Viola and David Campbell on double bass, they perform the full Trout Quintet as well as the glorious Notturno in Eb Major. This trio has been going strong for 18 years and with this their first album on ABC Classics, I hope to see more of them available on CD soon.
