Rossini: Barber of Seville
Oh Rossini, you’ve given barber’s a bad name! Our cheeky Figaro comes centre stage again to delight us from the Opera national de Paris. Although this particular production was recorded in 2002, it’s so much fun, although slightly odd at times. Very Moorish in the style of sets and costume, for some strange reason Figaro is wandering around in brightly coloured garb, with mobile phones strapped to his arm. However this production works particularly well as a DVD, you get frequent close ups of all the comic faces pulled by the actors. There is so much detail everywhere that you are glad of frequent zooming into moments of high action.
