Rachmaninov, Li-Wei Quinn
Chinese born, Australian raised cellist Li-Wei Quin is a very popular musician round these parts. Coupled with Albert Tiu they have recorded a sweet collection of works for cello and piano by Rachmaninov. With singular tunes such as the famous Vocalise and other smaller works, in the middle is the meatier Cello Sonata in G minor Op 19. At times Li-Wei’s playing almost sounds like someone singing rather than playing an instrument. These generally short works would be a great way to introduce someone not familiar with Rachmaninov to his amazing style of composition.
