Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan
I waited for the latest Riordan with bated breath and I wasn’t disappointed. Following the son of a Norse god in his latest series, Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer is a rip-roaring adventure through the nine homeworlds, with enough action for three whole books and an array of beautifully drawn characters, both new and old. Riordan’s world is vastly populated and textured with great detail, making it easy to step back in and be carried along. The fast-paced plot is supported by an immensely relatable emotional through-line and humour aplenty. Bonus points for the Annabeth Chase cameo. I always need more sassy teen-girl-warrior time.
