In London, Helen Weeks, a pregnant police officer, loses her child’s father, Paul Hopwood, in what appears to be a random accident. Knocked down and killed by a car that had had a gun fired at it in a dangerous part of London, it appears Paul may have been the innocent victim of a gang initiation gone wrong. But Helen, aware of his secretive life spent investigating violent crimes, begins to suspect that he may have been murdered. Only two weeks away from delivering her child, she nevertheless begins her own investigation, delving into her lover’s past. Meanwhile, intermingled with her story is that of the criminals who are responsible for Paul’s death – but was it really an accident, or could it have been deliberate?
