Home by Carson Ellis

The notion of home is beautifully and imaginatively explored in Carson Ellis’s first picture book. She isknown for her ethereal illustrations in the Wildwood novels and here her talent shines on its own.

Children will get lost in the detail and possibilities of the various types of homes and different cultures. Little cottages, majestic palaces, ships and even an old boot (ring a bell?) are rendered with subdued but rich colours and at the end we see the illustrator in her own home creating the artwork for the book. And it is here in her room we discover the inspiration for her pictures – in her knick-knacks and souvenirs. Back we go and observe, more closely, the book from the start to find these whimsical artefacts within the paintings.

Highly recommended for readers aged 3 and up.
