This record is Levon Helm’s first release in more than 10 years. It includes a mix of traditional interpretations with modern and classic blues and country standards. With a deep rooted respect for music from another time Levon has decided to explore songs he leaned as a child growing up in Arkansas as well as others in that particular style. When he sang songs from The Band’s set list, like ‘The Weight’, he always transported us to a time of simplicity, even whilst singing about times of hardship.

Just beautiful, sentimental rendetions that are etched into the lines of his face. Levon sings and plays drums, guitar and mandolin while being accompanied by Larry Campbell, Amy Helm and Teresa William. The highlight here for me, and there are many, is his take on Steve Earles’ ‘The Mountain’. This song could have been on Band record 40 years ago! A simply stunning release and my sleeper for Christmas. Enjoy, enjoy!
