I am unfamiliar with the works of Francesco Cilea however this opera, Adriana Lecouvreur captured my imagination almost straight away, being somewhat like the bio-pics of yesterday’s world, based upon the life of French actress, Adrienne Lecouvreur. And as in most movie bio-pics today, only some of it is based on real life and the rest is fiction. However that doesn’t distract from the vocal prowress of Mirella Freni. Don’t believe me, watch the clip and tell me that doesn’t make you want to watch the entire opera straight away!
