Brahms & Schumann, Lisa Batiashvili
Batiashvili’s previous release was one of our best sellers in 2011 and it was with great excitement I listened to her recording of the Brahms Concerto for Violin and Orchestra and the Three Romances by Clara Schumann. I have to confess that I had forgotten how truly sumptuous the Brahms Violin Concerto can be. With all the pomp and circumstance that is required Batiashvili performs with great dexterity and sensitivity. Her coupling with equally delightful pianist Alice Sara Ott (whose Tchaikovsky recording I’ve had on my iPod for some time now) is perfect for the Romances. Although there is the richness required for romantic-era works, there is yet a simplicity to both their performances the pulls you in.
