Betrothal in a Monastery, Prokofiev
Before I start this review in earnest, I would like to say that I think Anna Netrebko is one of the most beautiful opera singers I’ve ever seen. I may have only seen her on screen, rather than live but her dramatic voice coupled with her acting abilities makes her a force to be reckoned with. In this fairly recent production of Prokofiev’s upbeat romantic comedy, Betrothal in a Monastery she’s part of a cast that bring a swirl of colours to the stage and had me hooked on, not only the fabulous story of identities swapped but love and happiness as well.
