Beethoven: Violin Sonatas, Leonidas Kavakos
It is a brave musician who decides to do a complete recording of a composer, especially one that can be as fraught with difficulty as Beethoven. Leonidas Kavakos with Enrice Pace have done just that, recording all of Beethoven’s Violin Sonatas over a 12 month period. In Kavakos’ introduction he admits to ‘the weight of the responsibility’ however it is obvious he and Pace have enjoyed their time recording these seminal works. These are thoughtful interpretations, with every note having it’s place in the grand scheme of things. Occasionally I would like them to let loose a little more and relax into the music. Nevertheless these are conscientious musicians who simply want to represent the works of Beethoven in a true and faithful rendition.
