Beethoven String Quartets 13 & 15, Fitzwilliam Quartet

The Fitzwilliam String Quartet is one of those rare beasts in classical music these days, a chamber group that is still going as strong today as when it was first founded. In the 1980s they were commissioned by Decca to record all the Beethoven String Quartets. Although they never completed the cycle, this release of Quartet’s No 13 and 15 is a boon for listeners. Not only that, the first CD was Decca’s final recording in the lamented Kingsway Hall. The dynamics are lovely and a brightness infuses this recording that is sure to delight.
