Above and Below by Hanako Clulow & Patricia Hegarty
Above and Below is a beautifully illustrated natural-world fact book. Each spread details a different landscape, with factoids about the plants and animals that can be found there, with the added bonus of page-wide flaps to expose what’s going on below the surface, or on the inside of hilltops. It’s a cute idea and although the information about each creature is very brief, the book will certainly work well as a gorgeous jumping-off point for young nature enthusiasts who will enjoy spotting all the animals in their habitats, and discovering environments from multiple viewpoints. This is a great book for young children, but it’s so beautifully presented that it will appeal to those much older as well.
