The Shroud of Turin

Mary Catherine Schumacher

This story is about several children who constantly ask their Nana (grandmother) to tell them stories. In this book they ask for story about Jesus. Their Nana chooses to tell them the factual story of the Shroud of Turin, the purported burial cloth of Jesus Christ and the scientific data which supports the likelihood of the greatest miracle in human history. First their Nana reminds them of the events of Good Friday when Jesus Christ was beaten, forced to wear a painful crown of thorns as he was taken to be crucified on a cross outside of the city of Jerusalem. She explains how his friends had to bury him quickly before the Sabbath and could only return to his tomb to care for his body three days later. When they arrived at his tomb it was empty. There was no body but 2 cloths were left behind that had covered his dead body. After thousands of years science has advanced enough to show evidence of the crucifixion left on the two cloths. Children have very few resources that will allow them to learn about this on their own. This book fills that gap and helps demonstrate how faith and science are no opposites but help us understand truths.
