A new heroine is drawn to Oz.

Emily's goal is to return to her home while severing the links that bind her to Oz. But she finds Oz is a more complicated and nuanced land than previously described, where beauty, wonder, and magic live side by side with selfishness, greed, and lust for power.

Helped by friends, old and new, and hunted by cunning and sinister forces, Emily pushes ahead on her quest to return to the home she loves.

And finally, when home and safe, the school bully is pulled to Oz and she must go back to save him, someone who she just had a fight with. He is merely bait to lure her back. She doesn't know why she was brought to Oz, or why she is singled out for torment, but she must return to Oz and face the dangers she fled once again.

Emily is brash and bold, as well as thoughtful and caring. Right from the start, she demonstrates that she is not willing to be tossed about like a house in a cyclone, but will push back and fight to make things better. She is forced to make decisions that no one should have to make, let alone someone her age.
