When he attended his fiftieth class reunion at DSU in 1966 and saw the doctoral candidates graduate with their degree in educational leadership, he then realized that something was missing in his life. He felt that if he could make it through the Marine Corps, then he should be able to make it through the doctoral program because Marines never give up. "Once a Marine, always a Marine." Earning a doctorate degree was what was missing in his life.
