TAPROOM is the story of Timothy Allen Pushman, who is known by his initials, TAP. He grew up with few advantages. When he was three-years-old, his mother left him with an alcoholic father who died when he was fourteen. At sixteen, he ran away from his foster home, and was picked up at a bus station by Clarke Newman, who owned a restaurant along the South Carolina coast. With time, Tap went from an angry teen to a responsible man, however, his ability to love and trust was damaged along the way.

Although Elsa Karlsson had grown up in an affluent suburb of Chicago, she had also experienced rejection and betrayal. When her daughter is found on the floor of the TAPROOM after closing, Elsa's and Tap's lives connect. With little past experience in relationships, they struggle in how to relate to one another. There may just be too much baggage for them to have a relationship of any kind.
